This VIDEO DVD SET is a training, teaching, and educational tool, that provides you with the knowledge and information you need to make safe successful extrications in a shorter periods of time, a provides the skills for protecting the victim(s) from further injury.
A WEE HISTORY Vehicle rescue procedures that at least somewhat resemble the techniques used today really began on the automobile racetrack back in the late ’60s/early ’70s. As the story goes, the Hurst Company (a big player in auto racing and race car parts) realized that during crashes, rescue teams needed some help getting the drivers out of their cars. Thus came the invention of the Hurst Jaws of Life. Legend has it that the first sets of spreaders were huge—operated with a power unit the size of a pickup truck bed. Some pioneers of extrication training were the late Harvey Grant, Jim Gargan and O.B. Streeper, just to name a few. During the early 80's, the Office of the Fire Marshal of Ontario, Canada, put together an extrication training program that it would deliver to any fire departments that would listen. Then, around 1984, these early extractors put their heads together and came up with an idea of how they could best learn from others in the fire service. From there the art of extrication has evolved and continues to improve every year.
